What Is Breakage In A MLM Comp Plan?

I did a Google search on comp plan breakage. This is what I found at "MLM Compensation Plan Breakage - Why And How", by Dan Jensen, Chairman, Jenkon International, Inc

"Breakage is defined as the commissions left unpaid each month compared to the theoretical maximum of the plan." This article goes on to explain that breakage is used to assure the company makes a profit and to fund financial incentives to reward reps producing outstanding sales results.

That sounds fair and innocent enough ... right?

Here’s The Truth …

This definition is technically true enough, but the dirty little secret MLM companies and master recruiters don't want you to know is how tirelessly they work at incorporating unnecessary forms of breakage where ever possible.

There are 4 basic ways of creating breakage in a MLM comp plan.

1. Front Loading: a product that costs 2 to 4 times less than what it retails for. Prospective reps are promised "whole sale buying privileges". That brings the bloated price down to 2 to 3 times more than what the product is worth.<

2. Pay Plan Limits: any pay plan that stops paying beyond a certain team growth level. Limits may be set on depth, width, or both.

3. Unrealistic Qualifications: extremely high personal and/or group volume, multiple forms of different yet related qualifications, and sometimes even balancing requirements are put in place in order to get a check.

4. Direct Sponsoring: a company directly sponsors a rep when that rep signs up at the corporate site without a refering rep's ID number, or when a sponsoring rep is terminated. This puts the company in direct competition with its distributor base.

Many MLM companies have become very creative in how they incorporate breakage into their compensation plans. Over priced products no one would buy without a comp plan attached, compensation outside a rep's pay line, outrageously high and or complicated qualification requirements, and direct sponsoring are all ways companies hide breakage.

Some companies look for ways reps' can get a check. They offer products at a fair price point, they provide for unlimited team growth so the pay line is endless and stable, they craft compensation qualifications that work for the masses, and they do not put themselves in direct competition with the distributor base.

There is no perfect compensation plan. Breakage is a fact of life in network marketing, and every company works hard on the breakage in their respective comp plans. But which company would you rather build with … one that works hard to create breakage, or one that makes every effort to find it and then put that money in your pocket?

Do You Have A Compass For MLM Success?

Explorers throughout the centuries have prized a reliable compass as an essential component of required gear. They know all their other gear can do little to assure their survival without that simple tool that will help keep them on course.

The 5th Pillar for Success, a simple system for duplication, will help you and your team remain on course so you can work efficiently and effectively to create long-term wealth.

All the sales, recruiting, and closing techniques in the world are absolutely worthless if they are not backed up by a system for success anyone can use. Why? Because people are not duplicatable, only systems are duplicatable.

Here are the 7 components of a predictable success system.

  1. Affordable Price Point - people should not go broke using your system
  2. A Personal Data Base manager - to organize your list
  3. A Personal Contact Manager - to message part or all of your list
  4. Self-Branding Capture Page With A Free Offer - valuable freebies attract the attention of targeted leads
  5. A Personal Email Address - useful in many ways
  6. Free Skills Training - no one should go broke learning success skills
  7. A Team Web Site - a step-by-step action plan

People are not duplicatable. Only systems are duplicatable. In order for you to have long-term success in your network marketing career you must have a MLM success system that duplicates. An affordable system to track all your data & maintain contact with your prospects, which brands you as the “Go-To” person, and provides a team website for training throughout their whole learning curve, is a very duplicatable system.

What Does A MLM Compensation Plan That Pays Part-Timers Look Like?

The fourth of the 5 Pillars for Success in a network marketing company is a compensation Plan that pays part-timers. But what exactly are the qualifications for this kind of comp plan?

Let's look at some network marketing industry facts.

1. 95% of any team in a MLM business is building it part-time
2. A fair compensation plan pays the most amount of money with the least amount of team members.

I know what you're thinking, "But there's so many different comp plans, and they all look like Greek to me. Is there an easy way to spot these qualifications?

Say hello to my little friend ... The $10,000 Question.

To cut through all the confusing compensation plan qualifications and achievement levels just ask, ”How many team members would it take to earn a $10,000 check?”

The $10,000 question gives you the answer quickly and easily. Here's how it works. Just divide 10,000 by the retail commission amount per item sold. The result is the number of team members required to earn a $10,000 monthly check.

Example:1

Let’s say a product earns a $2.50 commission per unit sold.
$10,000 (monthly check) ÷ $2.50 (commission) = 4,000 (team members buying 1 item per month)

Example:2

In this case the commission rate is $20.
$10,000 (monthly check) ÷ $20 (commission) = 500 (team members buying 1 item per month)

Which do you think is easier to build, a team of 4,000, or a team of 500?

If 95% of your team doesn’t get a dime, then you will have a problem. Retention in a company is easiest when there is a fair compensation plan. Using the $10K question is the easiest way to see if compensation plan pays the most money with the least team members. If the final figure is out of reach for average people, then I would start looking somewhere else.

Recognizing A Remarkable MLM Product

In "MLM Golden Goose ... Or Mud Duck?" I introduced the 5 Pillars for Success so critical to your success in a network marketing business. Now we'll take a look at Pillar 3: a remarkable product.

In this business a remarkable product is like air to a scuba diver, without it she'll soon drown.

I know what you're thinking. "Well that's simple enough, just find a network marketing company with a product that lots of people are going gaga over and run with it."

OK, so why do so many would-be entrepreneurs flounder and drown in MLM? It has a lot to do with the type of product the company offers.

There are 3 basic product types.

1. Consumables: such as nutritionals or candles
2. Services: such as discount club memberships
3. Information: such as Ebooks, and “How To’s”.

A product must meet 3 criterion to qualify as "remarkable".

1. Mass Appeal: emotional attachment promotes re-orders
2. High Perceived Value: this reduces bargain hunting and promotes consumer loyalty
3. Fair Price Point: this is the best hedge against competition

Here's the reality about membership and informational products.

1. Memberships have a high drop-out rate because their perceived value is much lower than with a tangible item.

2. Information is sold once and often at a high price, and can often be found elsewhere for free. Not to mention the out-dating that technology is causing.

Here are a couple more reasons why some network marketing professionals prefer tangible products.

1. Tangible, consumable products such as nutritionals create their own perceived
value
because the prospect can use her senses to evaluate them.

2. The re-order rate for consumable products is high … especially when the product is consumed in 30-days.

If big money motivates you or you're just bored, then memberships or information products will work well for you. However, tangible products are very effective for those who want residual income.

Consumable products with a maximum re-order rate of 30 days are very remarkable. Nutritional products that create an immediate result the user can feel, offered at a fair price point fit the 3 criterion of Pillar 3, a remarkable product, perfectly.

When Should You Join A MLM Company?

In "MLM Golden Goose … Or Mud Duck?" I introduced the first of the 5 Pillars for Success in a network marketing company. Just like any physical building, if a network marketing company does not have all five of these components in its foundation the chances of you building a walk-away income of your dreams are slim to none.

Timing in a company and timing in the industry is the second most critical pillar for your success in a MLM company. Industry trends can create massive growth in a company … when the timing is right. Take Excel Tele-Communications for example.

1. The Shake-Down Phase

Excel Tele-Communications was a network marketing company that purchased blocks of long-distance telephone time at wholesale rates and then re-sold them to distributors and their customers for much less than the big Bells could.

In Excel's first two years, they had a lot of growing pains. The worst was the major Bells' refusal to switch customers to this new, wholesale rate service. It took lots of time, money, and Congressional action to force them this change.

Many distributors lost money and quit because they jumped at the cry of “Ground Floor Opportunity”". Two years created a huge difference for those who waited out that shake-down period.

2. The Momentum Phase

Once the Bells complied with the Feds and all the other start-up problems had been worked out business began to pick up. Trend savvy heavy hitters began building with Excel. Times were very good. Predictably, lots of people made lots of money for a while.

3. The Fizzel Phase

Then the bottom began to drop out of the industry with the introduction of the flat-rate service trend. Excel’s bubble began to fizzle down to nothing.

Excel was destroyed from within by greed and corruption. This and the Enron Scandal aside, the new flat-rate service industry trend signaled the need for Excel to make huge changes for survival.

Without those adjustments Excell would have still died.

Profit margins in the long-distance telephone industry had gone the way of the dinosaurs. Today the trend is service bundling. Even flat-rate alone is just not enough any more.

Timing in a MLM company and timing in the industry is absolutely critical to achieving your long-term goals and survival. If you want to build a network marketing business that will pay your grand kids, then you must be sure the timing is right.

Get in too early and you’ll lose your shirt because no one really knows what’s going on. Get in too late and you’ll go broke due to lack of interest.

You must wait until the timing is right, then act with vigor and a solid plan for success.

I appreciate you,

Where Is The Company's Loyalty?

In my previous post "Location, Location, Location" I shared a simple way to tell if the leaders of a MLM company have experience with integrity in the network marketing industry. Greed and ego are intoxicating forces which can spell serious trouble for you.

The most vulnerable time in your network marketing career is when you are considering where to make your home. So here's another field sobriety check to see if the leaders are competent to be in the driver's seat.

The Loyalty Test

Some people get all excited when they learn a company is publicly traded. Why?

1. Qualification for publicly held status is very rigorous.
2. "There's financial power in investor backing".
3. #1 and #2 offers the company leaders bragging rights.

The Fall From Grace

A friend of mine who I'll call Rick had an experience with a MLM company that went from privately held to publicly traded. The company owners and executive officers were great at what they did.

They used their leadership and skills to help that company become a booming success. Rick and everyone else really liked these people. Since Rick was their top income earner these people really liked him too.

Theirs was a perfect match. Then one day that company became publicly traded.

The owners and executive officers were still nice, good people. And they really thought this move was right … until the new board of directors that came with becoming publicly held started making demands.

The investors didn't know the distributors and they didn't care to. The board's sole interest was the investors' profits.

Simply stated, assuring long-term residual income for the distributors was not in the board members' job description.

This conflict of interest caused the owners and corporate officers to lose control of the company. It didn't stop there. The distributors were eventually kicked to the curb when the board and the investors they represented summarily "discontinued" the compensation plan.

Many distributors, including Rick, lost everything they'd built. As if to add insult to injury, the thirty-day written notice to Rick and his comrades told them this action was called an "enhancement". I'm sure a few investors got a couple of chuckles out of that.

So what's the point here?

People build network marketing companies, not investors. MLM is a relationship business and long-term relationships are built on trust, integrity, and concern for others.

Publicly traded companies are controled by people with but one goal. That one goal is profit. They cannot afford to know or care about you the distributor.

I asked Rick if he would ever build with a publicly traded company again. He very quickly said, "NO", and I don't suggest you should either.

I appreciate you,

Location, Location, Location

In "Have I Got A Deal For You" I share my "field sobriety test" to help you see if the leaders of a network marketing company should be behind the wheel. Now here's another quick field test to see if the driver is foisting a can of Greed And Ego.

Where Is The Corporate Office, And What Does It Look Like?

Centralizing is a good thing in a reference book or a survival kit. How about in an MLM corporate facility?

Not so much.

Let's take a look at two hypothetical companies to illustrate this point.

Company "A" - The Bombastic Bozos

These folks are image freaks. They centralized their corporate facilities in the ritziest part of the business district in the heart of their city. Their palatial corporate offices house all the employee work stations. It's a short walk to their distribution center.

100 operators take product orders & field customer support issues. VIPs are flown in by luxury corporate jets with rock star treatment all the way.

Wow! What an impressive and perfect atmosphere for schmoozing with stock market investors. Guess who pays for all that image?

That's right Cinderella … you, the rep … through the pay plan. Your goals, and aspirations as an entrepreneur are barely even on the readar scope.

Company "B" - The Quiet Builders

Corporate offices belong in the business district. However, these folks chose to put their offices in a much smaller building with much lower rent.

To cut expenses even more the distribution center is in the warehouse district. Visitors are always welcome, but these guys aren't Hertz, everyone comes at their own expense.

Remember Bozo's 100 person call center? Well, for that personal touch, Company "B" has a small customer & rep support staff to handle phone orders and such. The bulk of business is automated via the internet.

And last, but not least, this is not a publicly traded company so there's no need to impress any "Fortune 500" nitwits who can't spell MLM.

Overhead and headaches are low and manageable, staff and reps can be paid better, and customers don't get the runaround they might with a big lumbering greed and ego machine.

As they say in the business world, "Location is everything". Some MLM company leaders think that means putting the profits into all that glitters … including a high-rent location and big everything.

A few companies look for every opportunity to reduce overhead so more profits can be put into the pay plan for the benefit of the reps.

These company leaders quietly prove through action, not hype, that they know without you there would be no network marketing company anyway.

A fully centralized MLM corporate facility reminiscent of Solomon's Temple, says that greed and ego sits in the seat of leadership … and your head could role next.

Are You Desperately Looking For A Blog Topic? Ask My Grandpa.

Writing a blog is a great way to drive targeted traffic to your MLM business. Perhaps you're thinking, "But I can't write a decent post card message, how do I come up with a blog topic? I understand. Maybe my grandpa can help.

When I was a young lad I use to spend my summers with my grand parents. Grandpa was a dirt farmer and cattleman, and grandma maintained the house when she wasn't running the local elementary school from her secretary's desk. Both were old school, "take charge" kinds of folk. No nonsense, just find out what needs to be done and do it.

Grandpa oversaw the field hands for Spreckels Sugar Growers. On one occasion grandpa was talking to one of these field hands out in the middle of a field avenue and paying me no mind at all. That was fine … until the time came for me to find a place to go pee.

I Was Paralyzed With Panic!

I was a city kid. I had always been taught that going pee in private was important. I wasn't sure why, but I was five so I took it on faith. So you can understand why I asked grandpa in quite a panicked tone, "Grandpa, I gotta pee! What do I do?"

What do you suppose my "get'er done" grandpa told me? That's right, he said, "Well pick a spot for cryin' out loud. You got the whole valley! Quit botherin' me about it!"

"Oh … OK."

Suddenly a whole new universe of freedom was mine to explore! I picked a spot, took care of the problem, and nothing else was said about it. I was no longer bound by all those silly city kid rules. Now I could solve that problem all on my own any time I needed to.

The following event illustrates how seriously I took grandpa's liberating. advice.

The next day my mom came to the house and she and grandma took me with them into town for a bit of shopping. When the time came for me to solve my little problem I didn't bother anyone about it. I just picked a spot and took care of it right then and there ...

... right on Main Street Woodland.

Later that day, after being chewed out, grandpa noted that he didn't say I should do that in town. I learned an important lesson that day. Your audience will let you know what they expect of you.

What's That Got To Do With Picking A Blog Topic?

There are two facts in MLM:

2. Network marketing is a relationship business
2. Leaders are readers.

Leaders in the home business industry write about what they know, what sets them apart from the crowd. They use their blog to build relationships and draw leaders to them.

Some of the best posts are in story form. You are the one expert on what you know. That is your story and it's just bursting to get out to the world.

Getting your story out will put you in front of the people you are looking for who can relate to you. It will also help them see you as the leader they're looking for. After all, those are the only people you want in your business anyway.

It doesn't need to be perfect. In fact, that would drive many people away. Remember, home business seekers are looking for someone like them. Besides, you are invisible without exposure to lots of these awesome people.

So write your story, or even make one up. Then ask yourself how it relates to an MLM business. When you have that and you can tell it's relevant then let it go … trust me, the rest will take care of itself.

I appreciate you,

Bill Tessore

Finding Your Inner MLM Wizard

To reach the goals you want in network marketing, you've got to be a leader. To be a leader, you must have followers. For you to lead, somebody has to follow you. To have anyone follow you, they must see you as a leader. They must see you as the person who can lead them out of the morass they are in.

You Already Have A Head Start.

Why would anyone follow YOU? It's simple. You attract them because you believe in something. You are passionate. You are enthusiastic. Because you are a passionate, enthusiastic believer, that puts you way ahead of everyone else.

Do you believe that a passionate, enthusiastic belief can make the difference? A lot of people see it that way, which means you can be an MLM wizard. You have committed yourself to the first part of the "MLM Wizard Formula".

Are you wondering, "What chance do I have to be a leader?" I understand. If you stumble in the dark looking for the right path, how can you show it to others?

FACT: No leader is sure of every part of the path, but every leader believes he or she can navigate that path successfully.

The truth is, you are very, very close to being able to show that path to others ... even if you aren't quite sure of the footing yourself. All you need are a few skills (and, of course, total belief).

You Can Be The "Go-To" Person.

If you are someone who is coachable, and if you are willing to learn the skills, then YOU can be the star in your chosen MLM niche. You can be the #1 person people turn to when they can't do it themselves. You can be the hot leader for some group of people whose future depends on finding a model they can trust and follow.

If your goal is to achieve success in network marketing, then you MUST become that strong leader.

Look around. It's clear successful network marketers are leaders. To be a leader, you must have followers. People will only follow you if they see in you an unwavering belief that you can help them be successful. It's a primal instinct.

To have that belief, you must get rid of your inner doubt and conflicts.

That's the problem. You've gotten used to and become comfortable with some negative belief. In a way, it's benefitting you, and probably at the expense of a lot of other people. At the same time, there's a fight for your soul, a battle you can never win. And so long as that war goes on, it's pretty darned hard for you to get gung-ho about anything.

What do you do to take advantage of the good, pure belief you really need in order to lead a large group to network marketing success?

Hard to believe, it's simple. I didn't say "easy", but it is simple. The question is, can YOU do it? Stay tuned ...

I appreciate you,

Bill Tessore

Colors Technology - Life According To A Red

In <"Color Your Way To Success" I laid out the basic colors personality chart. This simple success tool can show you exactly how to relate to someone with a Red personality quickly and easily.

Why is that important?

Network marketing is a business that only works when built upon know, like, and trust relationships. If you cannot relate to a Red the way his or her personality type relates, then your job is thousands times harder than it needs to be.

When using the colors technology to talk to reds always remember two things.

1. Listen to the Red.
2. "Become" a chameleon by talking like a Red.

The Red (15%) - "Show Me The Money!"

Self-Contained and Direct: difficult (if not impossible) to coach, like control, self-starters, dynamic, money-motivated, don't talk to them about 'family' or 'vacations', will succeed in Stair Step Break Aways, are well connected (referrals), bossy, born leaders, organized, usually not 'team players', impatient, driven, confident, 'challenge' them, stroke their ego, Corporate CEOs, sales types or business owners

The colors chart, the Colors CD, and a little practice can empower you with the slight edge to surpass the churn and burn recruiters that have been telling you, "You're doing it wrong". Always remember to listen to what the red is saying, how they are saying it, and then become a chameleon so they will feel comfortable talking to someone 'just like them'.

When you master the colors technology you become attractive. People join people … not companies.

2. "Become" a chameleon by talking like a Green.

The Green (35%) - "Give Me All The Facts And Figures."

Self-Contained and Indirect: detail oriented, analyze everything, believe they're smartest people on planet, sensitive (feelings easily hurt), prone to depression, never try to 'sell' to them, be 'up front' with them, they'll never 'quit' the business (that's an admission of failure), give them tons of information, engineers, attorneys, accountants.

The colors chart, the Colors CD, and a little practice can empower you with the slight edge to surpass the churn and burn recruiters that have been telling you, "You're doing it wrong". In "Color Your Way To Success" I laid out the basic colors personality chart. This simple success tool can show you exactly how to relate to someone with a Yellow personality quickly and easily.

Why is that important?

Network marketing is a business that only works when built upon know, like, and trust relationships. If you cannot relate to a Yellow the way his or her personality type relates, then your job is thousands times harder than it needs to be.

The Yellow (35%) - "Let's Work Together."

Open and indirect: nurturers, caring, don't want to be sold, hate pushy sales types, slow talkers, they talk about 'family' - 'vacations', like 'spillover, hate StairStep breakaway comp plans, nurses, teachers, and union workers

The colors chart, the Colors CD, and a little practice can empower you with the slight edge to surpass the churn and burn recruiters that have been telling you, "You're doing it wrong". Color Your Way To Success

Some in network marketing attract prospects with little to no effort at all. It's like they know something others don't, some sort of prospecting secret. What do you suppose it is?

It's the greatest secret that's always been right in front of you. The secret is the power of the colors technology. A simple color coded chart shows the basics about all personalities so anyone can build relationships fast.

Make Your Own Color Personality Chart

1. On a piece of paper draw a vertical line down the center from top to bottom.
2. Draw a horizontal line along the center from left to right.
3. In the top margin in the center write the word “Open”, and at the bottom margin at the opposite end write “Self-Contained”.
4. In the left margin in the center write “Indirect”, and on the opposite side write “Direct”.

The Colors Quadrants

1. In the top-left square write “Yellow 35%”.
2. In the top right square write “Blue 15%".
3. In the bottom-left square write “Green 35%”.
4. In the bottom-right square write “Red 15%”.

There you have it, the four color personality types each with its two main characteristics. Now you can quickly identify them by asking two quick questions:

1. "Is he open, or self-contained?"
"Is she direct, or indirect?

Some Clarifying Definitions

1. "Open" & "Self-Contained" - These terms refer to emotional responses during conversation.
2. "Direct" & "Indirect" - These terms refer to how people deliver information during conversation.

This simple, yet powerful business building tool can create a shift in your network marketing career from frustration & failure to someone who attracts others at will. It’s like having a crystal ball. When you understand how the color personality technology works you can become a camelion, build a relationship with anyone you want, and have an ethical advantage over the slam-bam recruiters out there.

Your MLM Story

Let me see if I can guess how your story goes. It started when you were introduced to network marketing. You said, "Hey now, I can do this!"

Am I right so far? That's just what I thought.

There it was, the perfect way to quit that "I hate my life" job and still sleep at night. Finally your family would see you as more than a room mate and joy and peace of mind would be yours.

Then Reality Set In

Next a "Heavy Hitter" wrapped his arm around you and said, "Trust me, I'll help you make tons of money!" You made the Cardinal Error. When he fed you that line, expecting you to put your faith in him, and trust him ... you did.

The Big Dream

Your greatest dream had come true. Your kids and wife would have all they ever needed, you would be a big hero, and suddenly you had this awesome expert guru leader as your best friend.

The Bigger Nightmare

Then the train wreck began … in slow motion. You saw it all happening, like a bad dream at first but then it gradually picked up momentum and there was no stopping it. Then all was lost.

Looking Back On It All

You just wanted freedom, not the money. Unfortunately, that guy who took you under his wing, who lead you on, he really wanted the money. He wanted your money. You trusted him because of his track record.

You thought he'd be your guide to financial freedom, because that would benefit him. The truth is guys like him get the good things in life by fleecing people like you. He doesn't build anyone.

Looking Forward

So, after a pretty rotten start, where do you go from here? How do you really achieve financial freedom? How do you really get rid of that job you hate? I have a plan. Come back soon. I'll tell you more.

I appreciate you,

Have I Got A Deal For You!

In the preceding post, "Just Sign Here", I explained how the talents of lawyers are used to hide the lack of integrity and network marketing experience of the leaders of a company. That is, reding the contract (P and P).

Since contract reading can be time consuming a field sobriety test of sorts has been devised to determine if the company and its master distributor are drunk with unethical behavior, thusly driving similar behavior in the field.

There's a good reason these guys have sweaty palms and shifty eyes.

The FTC (Federal Trade Commission) defines a pyramid scheme, in part, as a company who's main money making method is recruiting without providing a product of value. Running a pyramid scheme is often the reason company officers and master distributors get locked up.

To create the illusion of retailing as their main way of making money companies offer products or services at a morbidly obese retail rate and tell prospects their wholesale rate is a reward for becoming a productive rep.

Many of these products can be had at Wal-Mart and the like for much less. So the first thing we're looking for in this test is deceptive behavior from the company that drives "garage qualification" in the field.

Reps garage qualify by buying more product than they can use just to get a check. Front loading, a knee jerk response to a recruiting oriented compensation plan, is the second thing to look for in this test.

Reps doing this want to get some of that money back. So they turn around and unload that excess inventory by offering them on auction sites under a fictitious name.

To conduct this test and see if this is going on in a company search for their products at:

Amazon.com
Ebay.com
Google.com
Yahoo.com

Well officer (BURP!) how'd I do?

Multiple auction site offers of a company's products tell you four things:

1. Recruiting is what the company is really rewarding.
2. The leadership is motivated by greed and ego.
3. The reps in the field are front loading just to survive.
4. The products are grossly over priced.

Conclusion

Do you want to build a profitable network marketing team? Is long-term wealth your goal? Do this simple search before you join any company. Chances are you will be glad you did.

"Just Sign Here"

In my post titled, "Trust Me", I showed how a Google search can reveal the experience and character of the leaders of a MLM company. Now let's look at the most revealing way to learn if a network marketing company has this 1st Pillar in place.

Read the contract.

Even though the Policies and Proceedures, the contract, are written by hired guns (lawyers) to look after the interests of the company, it is the least read document of anything the company commits to print.

Why is that?

The companies know most people are too trusting, or in too much of a hurry to start their new home business to bother to read some long, boring legal junk.

Used Car Anyone?

MLM companies know their P and P's are like an "AS IS" statement on a used car. If you don't check that car out thoroughly before buying it, then any defect you find later is on you.

Failing to read the contract can spell disaster for your success right from the start. Plus your agreement to the P and Ps protects the MLM company from you taking legal action.

How-To Read The P And P

This can be a daunting task … even for experts. But there is a way to simplify it all. Look for key words and phrases that can spell trouble for your long-term business success.

Murderous Key Words And Phrases:

ongoing / regular / continuous / monthly … training/sales/management … responsibilities/obligations,
without / with or without / for … cause / notice / written notice
with 30 days written notice/notification
non-renewal, inactivity, involuntary cancellation, terminate/termination, sole discretion, discretion of COMPANY, household
disparaging / disparagement
waive rights/ waive any and all rights, liquidated damages
proprietary / proprietary interest, class action, 70% rule

NOTE: Because attorneys concoct these words & phrases there may be others not listed here.

P And P's Are Like Cockroaches!

Some contracts have grown with time to 100 + pages, with loads of these nasty little "gottyas" spread throughout. Plus the legal Dobermans writing this stuff like adding new key words, or even re-writing the whole thing.

On the up side, once you find these little buggers you know to keep looking for more. Chances are if you find one, then there's lots more hiding in the cracks.

An Ounce Of Prevention

The Policies and Procedures are a legally binding contract between you and the MLM company. It is imperative that you read this document and know what words and phrases to look for when reading it. This makes the company management's experience level obvious.

Generally, you want to see a contract of no more than 10 to 15 pages, and few if any killer words and or phrases.

Lawyers write these contracts to protect their client (not reps). They often insert certain words and phrases such as, “ongoing obligations”, “regular training responsibilities", etc. to steal your check, and or to make it so you can't retire.

Reading your contract is the safest, cheapest, most insightful way to learn about any MLM company and its leaders.

"Trust Me"

In my post, "MLM Golden Goose ... Or Mud Duck?", I outlined the 5 Pillars for Success. One of the worst failings among network marketers is not doing their due diligence on this point. You are headed for a train wreck in your business if pillar 1 is missing.

Pillar #1: Company Management Experience With Integrity

To see if pillar #1 is in place do a Google search of the officers and master distributor. Here are the things you must look for

1. Have they ever built a successful network marketing business before? If not, then they don’t understand or respect what you go through to build that business
2. Has the FTC ever prosecuted any of these leaders? If so, then chances are they’ve just moved to a new play ground and are looking for new playmates to foist their old habits upon.
3. Is the company publicly traded? If so, then the company’s priority of allegiance puts you at the bottom of the list.

Ah, the power of "The Google".

Google can tell you if the company officers and master distributor have practical MLM industry experience. This experience, or lack of it, will tell you if the leaders of the company understand the reps' position and needs, and where their allegiance lies. This requires a bit of digging, but the insights it reveals into the minds and character of the company leaders are priceless.

No Company Is Perfect

It is true there is no Adonis MLM company. However, if you find any red flags and you still want to become a rep with that company, then you should do some more investigation before making a final decision. It could save you years of failure and frustration.

MLM Golden Goose ... Or Mud Duck?

What do you need from a network marketing company so you can succeed long-term? Don't know? Think you do? You might be surprised.

Goose, Goose … Mud Duck!

Some MLM companies hype up their comp plan or the product they offer. They know they have to make you think what they offer is a magical way to endless riches. In a way this is true … for the company and its top leaders. Mean while, the average folks are left with a foul, worthless, and frustrating load of feathers.

The Booby Prize

These companies encourage their super-gurus to say network marketing is all about recruiting, selling, or closing. Don’t You Believe It! This is just a mud duck with gold glitter glued on it to hide the unethical behavior that greed and ego produces from the top down. And this is how honest people get taken.

The Prize Bird

The 5 Pillars For Success are what you must look for in a MLM company that will pay long-term residual income

1. Company Management Experience With Integrity
2. Timing In The Company, Timing In The Industry
3. A Remarkable Product
4. A Compensation Plan Set-Up So Average People Can Get A Check Right Away
em>5. A System For Average People To Succeed

If a MLM company lacks any or all of these five pillars, then you might as well start looking for a giant bean stalk to climb. Your results will be about the same.

"OK kid ... but can these puppies recruit?"

One day in June a young girl’s dog had a litter of puppies. The girl decided to find homes for these puppies while making a buck. At the first door she said, “Sir, these are fortune 500 puppies, and they’re going for $2 each. ”Just before closing the door in the kid’s face the man groused, “Their eyes aren’t even open yet, what would I want with any of these?”

Two Months Later …

The same girl came back to the same house with the same puppies. The man said smugly, “Still trying to sell the same puppies?” The girl confidently proclaimed, “No, they’ve changed. So now they’re going for $200.”

Apoplectic, the man blurted out, “WHAT? What has changed? Why has the price jumped so much in just 2 months?”The young entrepreneur smiled victoriously and asserted, “Now that their eyes are open they’ve become network marketing puppies.”

Open your eyes to your potential.

When you see what really works in MLM and you believe in yourself, then you determin your net worth.

What Works In MLM?

Like most people in network marketing I was suckered by the hype and fast pace of professional recruiters. And, also like most people looking to create extra income from home, I began to think this industry was run exclusively by sharks and thieves.

Then I became a member of a group of like-minded people with a mission to help as many people as possible to achieve their goals in their lives and in their network marketing careers

Nice Guys Finish First

We believe your dreams cost enough as it is, so we do this for FREE and with no agenda. If you're in a company we'll help you work with that company to build a big, profitable business.

Why?

1. The Law of Reciprocity: you get back from the Universe exactly what you put into it. In network marketing greed & ego do not build a profitable business.
2. Team Retention: People only give their loyalty to a leader they know, like, and trust.
3. Companies Come and Go: we know if we help you and then your company folds you'll most likely come to us to find a new home because we will have built a know, like, & trust relationship with you.

Leaders build long-term wealth through strong relationships. If this makes sense to you, then you know what to look for to build a successful team and business.

I appreciate you
